FAQ

Common questions

Do you store my receipts or files?

No. Your file never leaves your device. The fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) is computed locally in your browser. Only the hash — never the file itself — is sent to the blockchain.

Why Base network?

Base is a fast, low-cost Ethereum Layer 2 network backed by Coinbase. It provides the security of Ethereum at a fraction of the cost, making per-receipt on-chain proofs practical.

Do I need ETH to verify a receipt?

No. Verification is a read-only lookup — it is completely free and requires no wallet or gas.

Why does re-saving a PDF break verification?

SHA-256 hashing is exact — even a single invisible bit change produces a completely different fingerprint. Always upload the original file exactly as it was downloaded, without opening, resaving, or renaming it.

What does the 1 USDC fee cover?

The fee is charged to the issuer wallet at the time of registration to prevent spam and sustainably fund the service. Verification is always free.

Who can register receipts?

Any wallet can register receipts when fee payment is configured and approved. Allowlisted wallets are marked as trusted issuer profiles in the UI.

Why do I sometimes need to approve USDC again?

Registration uses ERC-20 allowance. If your allowance is fully consumed by previous registrations, you need to approve again before creating new proofs.

What if I cancel in my wallet?

No on-chain changes are made when you reject the request in your wallet. You can retry the action whenever you are ready.

Can the same receipt be registered twice?

No. The same file hash can only be registered once. Duplicate registration attempts are rejected by the contract.

What if my wallet is on the wrong network?

Write actions like approve and register require the deployment network. If your wallet is on a different chain, switch to the required network and try again.

What can admins do in the dashboard?

Admins (contract owner) can approve or revoke issuer wallets in Access Control. My receipts is for viewing, searching, and exporting wallet-linked receipt records.

How should we handle GDPR and data protection obligations?

Receiptuary is designed around data minimization: files stay local and only cryptographic proof data is written on-chain. You are responsible for ensuring compliant use in your jurisdiction and for avoiding personal data in issuer-visible fields.
